About Nicole

Nicole RiveraNicole Sarabia Rivera has been an active Democrat all her life. She currently works for Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, in her San Francisco district office. Nicole proudly serves as the Congresswoman’s Field Representative and Caseworker.

Raised by a single mother, Nicole witnessed first hand her working mother’s struggle to provide for her family. As the product of the public education system, Nicole understands how proper school funding and support for good teachers impacts young people. That is why social and economic justice issues are at the heart of her values, and guide her efforts.

In high school Nicole founded Teens Against Prejudice (TAP), a club dedicated to combat racism and prejudice by educating other youth about social and economic issues related to diversity and gender equality. While at University of California, Berkeley Nicole majored in Women’s Studies and interned for the San Francisco District Attorney’s office to work in the Domestic Violence Unit.

As an active member of the California Young Democrats (CYD) Nicole served on the board of the San Francisco Young Democrats (SFYD) and was nominated as California Young Democrats Woman of the Year. As the Program Director of SFYD, the Primary Endorsement Forums that Nicole spearheaded were awarded the California Young Democrats Event of the Year award.

Nicole’s work with the California Young Democrats and the Young Democrats of America led her to help found the Action Caucus: Mobilizing Democratic Youth. The Action Caucus organized the CYD membership around a plan to mobilize Young Democrats in the fight for Congressional District 11 to defeat Representative Richard Pombo and win State Senate District 34. They raised money and created www.lefton580.org a ride board for activists to use to elect Congressman Jerry McNerney and hired a Field Director to organize the youth vote for SD34. Both of these highly contested races resulted in victories for Democrats.

In the past statewide election cycle Nicole served as Campaign Manager for the Contra Costa United Democratic Campaign, and as Steering Committee member of both Phil Angelides’ and John Garamendi’s Bay Area youth outreach teams. She also worked as a Field Organizer for the Democratic Party of Orange County, an example of the youth outreach during that campaign can be viewed on NicVision.

Her work with underrepresented communities and young people was recognized in 2006 by the REAL hot 100 a group that challenges pop culture’s image of female attractiveness by celebrating young women for their brains, social activism and efforts to make the world a better place. Most recently she has worked as a founding member of Good Ol’ Girls, a Bay Area political, professional, and social network of over 200 progressive women.

As Congresswoman Pelosi’s Field Representative and Caseworker, Nicole represents Congresswoman Pelosi and works with constituents on key San Francisco issues such as housing, labor, education and veterans. She also represents Congresswoman Pelosi with key communities including Latino, African American, Women and Youth.
